John Milton's 17th century work Paradise Lost is a masterpiece of epic poetry. It tells the story of Satan's rebellion against God and their subsequent expulsion from Heaven.

The most famous quote from this book is spoken by Satan as part of his rousing speech as he rises from a lake of fire to lay claim to Hell: "Better to reign in Hell, than serve in heav'n."
