The Adversary
We are called the Adversaries...
Though the Church holds as plain as
truth the theory that just as there is one God there is one Devil, those who have sought
the mysteries of the world have discovered there seem to be as many devils as there are
people who believe in this force of evil - is the Devil such an artful deceiver that he
can appear in many forms, or is the Church wrong? There is no simple answer to such a
question, but it is possible to explore several of the options.

Not even Infernalists agree about the ranks of Hell's minions. By even the
most conservative estimates, the Darkness shelters over half a million
Fallen angels, ranging from crude fiends and banes to the arch-enemy of God.
For simplicity, assume that demonic creatures fall into the following rough
classifications:
1. The Absolute (who may be God, Satan, or greater than either)
2. The primal Emanations (which may include Gaia, the Wyrm and the Wyld)
3. The Deep Lords of Misrule
4. The Gods of this World (possibly including Lucifer and Jehovah)
5. Arch-dukes and Dukes (also Urge-Wyrms)
6. Lords (also totem avatars of Black Spiral Dancers)
7. Minor Lords (also greater Banes and Spectres)
8. Tempters (sometimes classified as greater servitors)
9. Servitors (also elementals, djinn and most Banes)
10. War-demons (also many Spectres), Servelings, Infernal hosts, human cultists
