The Vampires
(Guide to the Sabbat)

Vampires are merely one expression of supernatural evil in the world. Although vampires are creatures of great power and depravity, they pale in comparison to the truly ancient beings that reside in Hell beyond the realms of the dead. This, then, is the credo of the followers of the Via Diabolis: all vampires are but pawns to the demons of the Inferno, and the proper place of the vampire is to acknowledge  the supremacy of these infernal masters. Some vampires revel in their natures and spread their vile ways, but they see themselves as masters of vice. The true masters, whisper the Corrupters, are the creatures formed of the spiritual essence of malevolence, the demons that enslave and devour human souls.

To follow the Via Diabolis, the Path of Evil Revelations, a vampire must believe in her role as a servant of greater evil, as well as in the place of demons and infernal entities as greater harbingers of the corruption that vampires spread. All vampiric Infernalists claim one or more demonic Patrons,  spreading the specific brand of vitriol espoused by their Infernal lords. The vampires claim to be given great powers and a place in the infernal hierarchy, in exchange for absolute servitude and the sacrifice of their own souls (and the souls of their victims). With such enticements, the Corrupter spreads his own brand of poison among his associates, seeking to turn other vampires to his cause eventually so that they may take their rightful (and subordinate) places in the hierarchy of Hell.

Although the infamous Baali bloodline is said to spawn the vast majority of vampiric Infernalists, this is not entirely true. While admittedly the Baali have more dealings with infernal powers than the average vampire, they prefer to be their own masters over servitude to what they believe to be lesser demons.

Many Infernalists stem from the ranks of the Camarilla and the Sabbat. Both sects value personal power and influence, and the forces of darkness are often eager to aid a vampire in his ascension to the top. Some whispers claim that all but a few of the hierarchy's top vampires are slaves of demonic masters....

Paranoid as the elder vampires are, they attempt to purge infernal influences from their ranks. The Inquisitors, Justicars and Archons search for signs of the Infernal in their sect members, and destroy any who proves guilty. And guilt is easier proven than innocence...
