Who are the Infernalists...? The Devil is always close at
hand. If you but turn your head and look around, you'll see his handiwork. Plagues
turn villages into ghost towns; wars scatter corpses for the crows; corruption mars every
human work, and decay rots flesh until only bones remain. The world is a feast for
vultures, a bloating carcass even the gods have abandoned. Likewise, Hell is ever near.
You can see it dancing at the end of the hangman's noose or squirming in the maggots on a
wheel-broken corpse. The painters, priests and prophets celebrate its glory. Why flee from
darkness? It's already here.
That's the Infernalist's perspective. He sees the horrors of the world
as a long prelude to the final Pit. In the filthy shadows of the World of Darkness, he
sees proof that God (if He ever existed at all!) has handed humanity a lie,
then abandoned us. Kindness, justice, beauty are all illusions crafted by the hopeless in
order to make Hell more bearable. If there is true Light, it still gives way to the
overwhelming Darkness...
- Mages
The Willworkers know the Darkness intimately
- Vampires
Caine's offspring is already damned, why not take it a step further?
- Werewolves
Even Gaia's warriors fall to the clutches of evil
- Kuei-jin
Some stray far from Xue's Dharmas of Enlightenment indeed
- Others
Supernatural creatures do not monopolize the Darkness
Yet, there is still hope. Amidst the seemingly endless night of the
World of Darkness, sparkles of hope and redemption shine brightly. Why then, do people willingly throw themselves into the flames?
We all have our reasons....
Desperation and Greed
Some people will do anything for a second chance. Some people will sell their souls to be
able to feed their children. The truly desperate turn to the darkness for a better life.
The envious and greedy for material possessions, for a sense of self-worth. And the Devil
is eager to comply.
Fatalism
Supposedly, this world is already condemned. There is no hope, no salvation. Hell is
waiting, its jaws wide to swallow us whole. Well, if Hell awaits us anyway, why not make
the best of it?
Rebellion and Rage
People rebel. No one tyrant has been able to suppress his people for long. The Devil fuels
that rage, that cry for freedom. The darkness grants the rebels the means to fulfill their
purpose.
Rise to Power
When your superiors have eternal unlife, a rise in power can take centuries... literally.
The Devil can assure one's rise to power, quickly and effortlessly.
Revenge and Hatred
Some deeds are too horrible to go unpunished. Forgiveness is for the weak who cannot
strike back, but the strong will have their revenge. The Devil grants those filled with
hatred the tools to act upon that hate.
Enlightenment, Self-rule and Power
Religion is a corrupt manifestation of a false God. True enlightenment lies in darkness,
in the Void of which all creation was spawned. The Darkness brings Truth, and with truth
comes Freedom. Freedom and power, power to be your own God.
Laziness
Some people just don't want to work for it. They want it here, and now! The easy way is
the best way, they argue. The Devil agrees...
Luciferianism
The Devil is but the victim of an evil deity. Satan deserves worship, not the God of the
books. That god is an evil god, and Satan is the true Bearer of Light.
Inheritance
Some Infernalists are born in sin, and live a life of sin. Dedication to the avatar of sin
is a logical step. Eat or be eaten, that's the reason of existence.
Perversity and Indulgence
Some people are born to perversity, others adopt it for fun. Goodness is boring!
Devil-worship, now that's entertainment!
Love of Beauty
The beautiful are blessed. Sex, money, attention, those things befall those with pleasant
appearance. Those less fortunate crave the same... The Devil grants them their wish.
Love and Lust
The God of the book preaches abstinence. Sex is a sin. But it sure is a good sin....
Forbidden love or pure lust, the road to darkness is the road to satisfaction.
The Truth
The old tales are lies. There is no life, existence is an illusion drawn over our eyes to
blind us from the Truth. Some break from their bonds in search of the Truth. The devil
shows them the way...
